2008 Adopt-a-School Activities

In 2008 Adopt-a-School students participated in more than 15 events and field trips sponsored in partnership with the Washington FBI Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association.

  • February 12: A total of 220 students attended the Duke Ellington School for the Arts to see “The WIZ” play.
  • March 3: In a visit to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, 220 students heard renowned neurological surgeon Dr. Benjamin Carson talk about how to achieve your dreams. Students were later treated to lunch at Cactus Willies Buffet restaurant.
  • Restaurant Etiquette Day with Clyde’s was held for five schools on the following dates:
    • March 31: Bucknell Elementary visited Clyde’s of Alexandria
    • May 5: Savoy Elementary visited Clyde’s of Georgetown
    • May 6: Young Elementary visited The Tombs Restaurant in Georgetown
    • May 19: J.O. Wilson Elementary visited Clyde’s of Gallery Place
    • May 20: Savoy Elementary School visited Clyde’s of Georgetown
  • April 11: During a field trip to New York City, 85 students from Bucknell Elementary and J.O. Wilson Elementary schools visited the United Nations and traveled via ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Lunch was served at Sabarro’s restaurant.
  • May 2: During U.S. Park Tour Day, 220 students from five schools visited the Lincoln, Jefferson, Korean, Vietnam, World War II, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorials and the Washington Monument. Students were provided lunch.
  • May 8: A field trip to Gettysburg National Military Park in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania brought 137 students from three schools to tour the historic sites. The trip was followed by a lunch at Perkins restaurant.
  • June 6: The Junior Special Agent graduation ceremony was held at FBI Headquarters. In all, 220 students from five schools participated. They also interacted with representatives from the Alexandria K-9 Unit and were given the chance to experience the Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) demo and tour, fingerprinting, and photographs. Fitness tests, tours, and a picnic also were held.
  • May 20: Excellent Behavior Incentive Day was held for members of the Junior Special Agents program. In all, 65 students visited the Capitol, the White House, and the FBI Washington Field Office. They were served lunch at Morrison and Clark Restaurant.
  • June 3: A tour of historic Mount Vernon was provided to 35 students from Savoy Elementary School.
  • September 17: During Constitution Day, 105 students from Friendship Public Chartered School visited and toured the Capitol and met several members of Congress.
  • October 9: Some 200 students from Bucknell Elementary, Bancroft Elementary, Savoy Elementary, and Dunbar Senior High School toured historic sites at Gettysburg National Military Park in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
  • October 24: More than 50 students from Bucknell and Savoy Elementary schools attended the Washington Horse Show at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C.
  • November 7: Approximately 110 students from Bucknell Elementary, Bancroft Elementary, Savoy Elementary, and Dunbar Senior High School took a field trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

    November 20: Thanksgiving dinner was sponsored by Wegmans Food Markets and Fort Myer Construction for 200 students at Bucknell Elementary, Bancroft Elementary, Savoy Elementary, Browne Educational Campus, and Dunbar Senior High School.
  • December 10: A holiday party was held for 200 students from Bucknell Elementary, Bancroft Elementary, Savoy Elementary, Dunbar Senior High School, and Browne Educational Campus.
