Centreville Man Sentenced for Bank Embezzlement
(Alexandria, VA) - John T. Kluczewski, 51, a former vault custodian and teller for Wachovia Bank in Annandale, Virginia, was sentenced today in United States District Court for embezzling $98,000 from the bank. Chuck Rosenberg, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Joseph Persichini, Jr., Assistant Director in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Washington Field Office, announced that United States District Judge T.S. Ellis, III, sentenced the defendant to 13 months in federal prison, 3 years of supervised release, and ordered him to pay full restitution to Wachovia Bank. Kluczewski pled guilty to the charge on May 23, 2008.
According to court documents, Kluzcewski, of Centreville, Virginia, was both a teller and the vault custodian for Wachovia Bank in Annandale from May 2002 until July 2007. Because the defendant served in both capacities, he was able to make entries in the bank's records to make it appear that the books were balancing for both his teller drawer and the vault, when in fact between July 2005 and July 2007, the defendant was stealing small amounts of cash that totaled $98,000.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case. Special Assistant United States Attorney Adrienne Frazier and Assistant United States Attorney Jack Hanly prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
