Bealeton Man Pleads Guilty to Receipt of Child Pornography
ALEXANDRIA, VA—James Campbell, age 60, of Bealeton, Va., pled guilty today to receipt of child pornography. Dana J. Boente, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Joseph Persichini Jr., Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI Washington Field Office, and Charlie Ray Fox Jr., Sheriff of the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office, made the announcement following Campbell’s guilty plea before United States District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee.
Campbell will be sentenced on Sept. 29, 2009, and faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of five years. Upon his release from incarceration, Campbell will remain under court supervision for a term of at least five years to life. Campbell also will be required to register as a sex offender in any U.S. jurisdiction in which he lives, works or attends school.
According to court documents and proceedings, on Sept. 25, 2008, officers from the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office seized computers and hard drives from Campbell’s residence pursuant to a Virginia state search warrant. A preliminary forensic review of one of the hard drives revealed images of naked prepubescent females. Based on this discovery, the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Department contacted the FBI and a federal search warrant was obtained. A subsequent forensic examination of Campbell’s computers and hard drives revealed more than 60,000 graphic image files and more than a dozen video files of suspected child pornography.
This investigation was conducted by the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Departments and the FBI. This case is being prosecuted in the Eastern District of Virginia by Special Assistant United States Attorney Andrew McCormack, who is on detail from the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section of the Department of Justice.
