Washington Field Office Community Outreach

Community Outreach Events with Washington Field Office Partners

The following organizations serve as our strategic partners.

D.C. Chamber of Commerce

A member of the D.C. Chamber of Commerce since 2004, the Washington Field Office frequently sends representatives to various events and programs such as the annual CEO Shoot, which brings up to 50 members of the Chamber to the FBI Academy at Quantico, Virginia for the day.

Greater Washington Board of Trade

We joined the Greater Washington Board of Trade in 2006 and regularly participate in its professional development programs. We have also provided speakers for Board of Trade events, including:

  • February 2007: Assistant Director in Charge Joseph Persichini hosted 50 regional business executives for the Board of Trade’s “Boardrooms around the Beltway” program to discuss the FBI’s mission and ways the Bureau can become more involved with the private sector.
  • January 2009: Assistant Director in Charge Persichini, Assistant Special Agent in Charge Andrew McCabe, and Supervisory Special Agent Chris Combs briefed more than 300 business executives on emergency management planning and the National Capital Response Squad efforts for the 44th Presidential Inauguration. This program was hosted by the Greater Washington Board of Trade and the D.C. Chamber of Commerce.

Leadership Greater Washington (LGW)

The Washington Field Office has a strong relationship with Leadership Greater Washington (LGW), especially since Assistant Director in Charge Persichini is a graduate of the class of 2008. His involvement in alumni activities remains significant, and the office also provides assistance in developing programs for LGW class participants on the Public Service and Public Safety day. The Washington Field Office is also becoming active in programs that LGW offers to young people.

Liaison and CEO Shoots at FBI Academy

Several times a year, we invite groups of community leaders, business executives, and strategic partners to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the FBI Academy. The day starts with a “meet and greet” with Assistant Director in Charge Persichini and senior WFO staff and a visit to interactive displays put on by the SWAT team, evidence response team, hazardous materials personnel, bomb techs, and firearms experts. Special agents then provide a walking tour of the FBI Academy and ballistic test area, and attendees are briefed on firearms safety before being given the chance to shoot a MP-5, Glock pistol, and/or Thompson .45 caliber machine gun. Learn more about liaison events at Quantico.

Price William County Chamber of Commerce

In 2007 the Washington Field Office joined the Prince William County of Chamber of Commerce. Involvement in Northern Virginia’s business community has become increasingly important since the Northern Virginia Resident Agency was opened in January 2008.

“Summer Intern Hire Initiative” (with District of Columbia government)

In 2008, a collaborative partnership of the Washington Field Office and the District of Columbia government called the “Summer Intern Hire Initiative” was launched for high school students residing in the District of Columbia. In 2009 this program was opened to students who reside in Prince William County, Virginia. This initiative has brought more then 75 interns into the Washington Field Office over the last two summers; some of the interns were offered the opportunity of potential full-time employment with the FBI. One of the 2009 interns had this to say about his experience:

“I was honored to have the opportunity to participate in the internship program at the Washington Field Office for the summer of 2009. I can truthfully and enthusiastically say that I had the best summer experience thus far in my short 16 years. I was placed on the Violent Crimes Task Force where special agents welcomed me and graciously showed me the inner workings of the FBI. I assisted special agents on multiple projects that gave me an abundance of satisfaction, and I developed long-lasting friendships. This summer allowed me to fall in love with the mission and the people of the FBI, and I am thankful that I was able to get my career started through this program. This internship has changed my perspective on many issues facing our nation today, and more importantly, it has given me a very strong idea of what I would like to dedicate the rest of my life to: public service.”
-Nick Kosturos, Washington Field Office Summer Intern 2009

Applications for the Washington Field Office's summer hire program will be available in January 2010.

Volunteer Internship Program (VIP)

The Washington Field Office Volunteer Internship Program is an opportunity for well-qualified college students to experience what it’s like to support the mission of the FBI. The program provides a unique working experience for college undergraduate or graduate students who are interested in exploring career opportunities related to their academic studies. Interns will work on projects that include various components of the FBI: counterterrorism, counterintelligence, cyber, criminal, information technology, finance, and human resources. All applications for the Washington Field Office VIP must be postmarked by September 28, 2009.
